Abstract :
The present status of experimental results on strange particle production in heavy ion collisions at the CERN-SPS and at RHIC is reviewed. The paper presents rapidity distributions and multiplicities, a discussion of the energy and centrality dependencies of strangeness production and in conclusion addresses open questions.
