Abstract :
Forbidden (L = 1) weak interactions are important in many areas of astrophysics, especially those involving neutrinos. Unfortunately, direct determination of their strength is difficult and appears likely to remain so; indirect approaches must be employed. Hadronic charge exchange reactions have proven to be a reliable surrogate for determining allowed (L = 0) strength, but little has been done to validate their use for L = 1 strength. We describe here a first attempt to do so that yields promise for the hadronic technique. We also discuss the issues one must consider to obtain reliable results from hadronic reactions.
