Abstract :
Phase diagram topologies depict how phase regions and phase boundaries constitute phase diagrams. For multicomponent systems, the relations for phase regions and phase boundaries can be well understood by the contact rule. However, the contact rule and zero-phase-fraction features have inherent relations that make the interpretation of this rule more naturally. In this work, the mutual relations and underlying disciplines between the contact rule and zero-phase-fraction features for Sm − xi and T − xi multicomponent phase diagrams have been extensively explored, the results of which contribute to an in-depth understanding of phase diagram topologies that are indispensable for novel materials design.
