Abstract :
Large magnetic spectrometers have always played a crucial role in nuclear structure and reactions-mechanism studies and are essential for studies using radioactive beams. Recently new magnetic spectrometers have been designed to achieve the highest possible efficiency to detect the reaction products with large angular dispersion. Solid angle of the order of 100 msr can be employed by using very large optical elements. In this case however, ion-optical aberrations must be carefully treated to reach high resolving power.
