Abstract :
Cable domes, first proposed by Geiger, belong to the indeterminate and prestressed assembly. Thus, the geometric stability analysis and the optimal prestress design are very important to understand the behaviour of cable domes. A new specific equilibrium state of integral feasible prestress is presented in this paper. Applying this specific state, the algorithm of geometric stability analysis of cable domes is modified and the optimal prestress of the domes is also designed. The numerical results show the proposed state of integral feasible prestress is unique to a specific dome and it is therefore useful for further research of cable domes.
