Abstract
The copolymer poly(AN-St-MMA) (PASM) was synthesized from acrylonitrile (AN), styrene (St) and methyl methacrylate (MMA) by emulsion polymerization. The blends were obtained from chlorinated polyethylene (CPE) and PASM. The compatibility of the PASM with CPE was estimated by the methods of torsional braid analysis (TBA) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) after mechanical blending. The results show that the MMA has a compatible effect on the blend of the CPE with the copolymer PAS formed from AN and St. The MMA-containing ACS resin has a better rheological behavior. The apparent viscosity ηa in the melt decreases with the increasing shear rate, and the melt has a behavior of a pseudoplastic liquid. When the content of MMA is about 5%, the viscosity in the melt and flow power n are all the minimum, and they increase with an increase of MMA. When the content of AN, St and MMA are fixed and the content of CPE is about 25%, the melt viscosity is the lowest. The impact strength increases with an increase of CPE, whereas the tensile strength decreases with an increase of CPE.
