Abstract
The free radical terpolymerization of three new systems with non-homopolymerizable monomers at 60°C with AIBN as initiator is described: (1) 2-chloroethyl vinylether (CEVE)/maleic anhydride (MSA)/methyl α-cyanocinnamate (CZME) in carbon tetrachloride; (2) Indene (IND)/N-ethylmaleimide (NEMI)/CZME in carbon tetrachloride and (3) trans-anethole (ANE) /MSA/fumaronitrile (FN) in tetrahydrofuran and 1,2-dichloroethane. All combinations can be regarded as systems of one donor- and two acceptor-monomers. The terpolymerization results in alternating copolymers of acceptor- and donor-monomer units. The ternary systems were investigated according to the known terminal, penultimate and complex model. The equilibrium constants for the formation of charge-transfer complexes between acceptor- and donor-monomers in the mentioned solvents as well as the reactivity ratios were determined. The solvent effects on the equilibrium constant and on the composition of the polymers in the system ANE/MSA/FN are investigated.
