Onset of convection in a horizontal anisotropic porous layer saturated with water near 4°c

The onset of convection in a horizontal anisotropic porous layer with regard to the density maximum of water at 3.98°C is studied using a linear stability analysis. A numerical procedure is used to solve the resulting equations. The onset of motion is found to be dependent of the permeability ratio K∗, and the inversion parameter γ.
