Abstract
Proteomics can be defined as the analysis of biological processes and systems by the systematic analysis of a large number of expressed proteins for specific properties such as their identity, quantity, activity and molecular interactions. Over the past few years, exceptional progress has been made towards developing a mature technology for the identification and cataloging of the proteins expressed in a cell or tissue (descriptive proteomics). More recently, efforts have focused on a quantitative proteomics technology that can also capture the dynamics of biological systems.
