Gearing up for the Next Millennium Are Some Asian Countries Closing the Gap?

This paper examines the tremendous progress made by some Asian countries in the area of new technologies, focusing on Internet technology. Several Asian countries are taking the opportunity of closing the information gap, successfully competing with the West and with others within the Asian region. Developed countries such as the US have collaborative arrangements in and also import computer-skilled personnel from Asian countries. The paper examines the extent of diffusion, the impact, the issues and the challenges concerning the Internet in seven Asian economies.
