Abstract :
This study aims to investigate the relationship between Deterministic thinking and general health with focusing on cultural points. Deterministic thinking is one of the main cognitive distortions. This distorted thinking considers no probability coming to conclusion about the events. The distortion brings about cognitive rigidity in the mind which may be mother of all distortions. Cognitive rigidity is a main reason for depression and other psychosocial maladjustments.160 students (male and female) participated in this study to answered Deterministic Thinking (DTQ), General Health Questionnaire (GHQ) and Zunk Anxiety Scale Questionnaire (ZAS). The results indicated significant correlation between DTQ and GHQ in anxiety subscale (P? 0/05) and also between DTQ and ZAS. Moreover the statistical analysis showed that the females have more deterministic thinking than males (P? 0/05). The study is in parallel with other researches which showed significant correlations between depression, marital satisfaction, communicational skills and DTQ. The findings were discussed in the light of the role that cognitive distortions play in mental health particularly anxiety and depression as a destructive factor disrupting the balance of fear and hope which is considered an important sign of peopleʹs faith in Islamic perspective.
