Abstract
Particle deposition arising from the flow of solid-liquid suspensions through porous media is an important physical process found both in nature and engineering systems. Among the large number of variables which influence the deposition process, the nature and magnitude of the surface interactions between the particles to be collected and the collecting body are perhaps the most important. This review presents a summary of the theories and experimental studies of the deposition process, describes the principles and procedures which may be used to estimate the extent of deposition, demonstrates the success and limitations of these procedures, and outlines certain directions for future studies. Emphasis is placed on making a reasonably complete presentation which may assist readers to become acquainted with the subject.
