Abstract
Mn2+-doped ZnS nanoparticles were synthesized by a chemical precipitation method at room temperature. The particle size was estimated to be 2.8 nm from high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) and calculated as 2.6±0.4 nm from peak broadening of the X-ray diffraction (XRD) pattern. A 30-fold increase in photoluminescence intensity has been observed from Mn2+-doped ZnS nanoparticles after surface passivation by a passivating agent with carboxylic functional groups.
