Abstract :
For the first time the effect of hydrostatic pressure on the room temperature emission spectra and fluorescence lifetime of Sm2+-doped SrFCl0.5Br0.5 mixed crystals up to 105 kbar were carried out by DAC. From the peak energy of the emission spectra we estimated the pressure induced red-shift of the 5D0→7F0 transition to be −2.254 cm−1/kbar. A dramatic change of the fluorescence lifetime for 5D0→7F0 transition was observed. The lifetime decreased from 1.459 ms at atmospheric pressure to 0.501 ms at 105 kbar. The pressure-induced lifetime change is described by a simple model that considers the effect of pressure through the induced change in the inter-ionic distance, energy for 5D0→7F0 transitions and refractive index n. In the considered pressure range (0–105 kbar) disagreement between measured and theoretically predicted values for τ is less than 4%.
