Abstract :
As new luminescent materials, self-activated and Eu3+ activated Ba3V2O8 and Ba2Y2/3V2O8 are studied. Ba3V2O8 strongly emits bluish-green light with the maximum wavelength at 490 nm by the excitation at 345 nm, due to the charge transfer transitions of VO43−. In Ba3(1−x)Eu2xV2O8 (x⩽0.3), the luminescence intensity of VO43− decreases as the Eu3+ content increases with emerging of the 5D0→7FJ (J=1, 2,…) transitions of Eu3+. For Ba2.1Eu0.6V2O8, the excitation spectrum exhibits the charge transfer transition and the f–f transition of the Eu3+ ion only. In the Ba3(1−x)Y2xV2O8 system (0⩽x⩽0.33), the luminescence intensity decreases with increasing the Y3+ content. When the Eu3+ ion is doped in Ba2Y2/3V2O8 as an activator, an intense red emission of Eu3+ resulted when the Eu3+ concentration is 5 mol%, similar to YVO4:Eu3+.
