Abstract :
Gd3+-doped (Y0.995Ce0.005)2SiO5 powder was synthesized by solid-state reaction. Morphology of (Y0.995Ce0.005)2SiO5 particles changed from an irregular shape to a regular shape of bottle-neck with the doping of Gd3+. Gd3+ substituting Y3+ in (Y0.995Ce0.005)2SiO5 resulted in obvious particle size reduction. The minimum degree of particle size became larger with increasing Gd3+ content; at the same time, the particle surface became smoother. XPS measurements indicated that Gd3+ inclined to locate at positions near particle surface. PL intensity of (Y0.995Ce0.005)2SiO5 decreased with the doping of Gd3+; however, CL intensity increased. The mechanism of the relative intensity change was discussed. Also, particle shape of (Y0.995Ce0.005)2SiO5 did not change when other rare earths such as La3+, Sc3+ and Lu3+ were doped in.
