Abstract :
Persistent phosphorescence of SrMg(SiO3)2:Mn,Dy was found to present two broad bands in the red and blue regions, respectively, accompanied by a 4f→4f emission from Dy3+. The red band was attributed to the Mn2+ emission, and the blue one was due to the defects induced by Dy3+. The phosphorescence of singly doped sample SrMg(SiO3)2:Dy also exhibits the blue band and Dy3+ emissions, which enable one to optically investigate the trapping mechanism in the Dy co-doped phosphors. A comparison of Mn2+ ions with the co-doped Eu2+ ions in phosphorescence emission was made to examine the behavior of Mn2+ ions in binding the delocalized carriers for the subsequent phosphorescent recombination. A reversed detrapping process was proposed to explain the phosphorescent properties of SrMg(SiO3)2:Mn,Dy.
