Abstract :
In this work, CdS quantum dots (QDs) capped by 2,2′-dithiodibenzoic acid (DDBA) were prepared at one step. The size, shape, components and spectral properties of DDBA-capped-CdS QDs were characterized by transmission electron microscopy, infrared spectrometry and spectroflourometry. The results showed that the prepared QDs with an average diameter of 15 nm have a favorable fluorescence, which is highly affected by pH of the environment. Interaction of some heavy metal ions including Ag(I), Hg(II), Cu(II), Fe(II), Ni(II), pb(II), Mn(II), Zn(II) and Co(II) with DDBA-capped-CdS QDs was investigated at different buffering pH media. Based on the fluorescence quenching of the QDs in the presence of metal ion of interest, feasibility of their determinations were examined according to the Stern–Volmer equation. The investigations showed that Ag(I) ions can be determined in the presence of many co-existence metal ions at the buffering pH of 7. This method was then applied for Ag(I) measurement in some environmental samples, satisfactorily.
