Abstract :
The present paper introduces a calculation method for the estimation of the risk of the damage caused by the lightning electrostatic discharge in electronic systems. The major idea of the method is the extension of the strokeless period, which is widely used in the primary lightning protection. It contains a detailed calculation for the probability of occurrence of overvoltage due to lightning electrostatic discharge entering a building through conductive coupling. A general building model was used for the calculation, which can represent industrial buildings, office buildings or a block of houses as well. In practice, a financial decision can be made based on the results of the calculation method.
