Synthesis of ternary molybdenum carbosilicide

Dense compacts of Mo⩽5Si3C⩽1 have been prepared by reactive hot pressing of a mixture of elemental powders of Mo, Si and C. Synthesis temperatures and soaking times have been optimized for obtaining pure Mo⩽5Si3C⩽1. The hardness of pure sample is 14.7 GPa.
