Abstract :
Al2O3–TiC powders were produced by self-propagating high temperature synthesis (SHS) using microwave heating (MH) and microwave hybrid heating (MHH). The central composite design (CCD) was used for conducting extensive experiments to study the effect of reaction parameters including amount of excess Al and Al2O3, particle size of C and Al2O3, and heating method on ignition behavior and characteristics of the resulting powders. The empirical models relating these important parameters and their interaction to the responses were then developed.
