Abstract :
SiC honeycomb ceramics with macroporous walls were fabricated by combining extrusion molding with pore-forming technology. The extrusion molding constructs honeycomb structure with parallel channels, while the iron oxide (Fe2O3, as pore-forming agent) forms interconnected macropores in the channel walls. The density and bending strength of SiC honeycomb ceramics decrease with an increase in Fe2O3 content, while the phase compositions do not vary with the Fe2O3 content. By controlling the addition of pore-forming agent, it is possible to adjust the pore structures in the channel walls for SiC honeycomb ceramics.
