Abstract
Synthesis of low-dimensional CuO nanocrystals with high aspect ratio using a pulsed wire explosion method in de-ionized water is reported. This is an energy efficient and eco-friendly physical synthesis method. Low-dimensional transition metal oxide nanoparticles have been widely researched for their unique current transport properties. We have successfully synthesized shape controlled copper nanocomposites using a novel pulsed wire explosion method without chemical additives. A possible particle growth mechanism corresponding to the exploding medium temperature is suggested. We have shown that surface condition of the nanoparticles, inter-particle electrostatic interaction and thermodynamic stability of the medium determine the final particle morphology. The ability to control the nanoparticles morphology and understanding of the crystal growth mechanism would facilitate in the synthesis of low-dimensional nanoparticles of various transition metal oxides for future electronic applications.
