Abstract :
A new method of measuring the resonance properties of a vocal fold using electromagnetic excitation and laser optoreflectometry for response monitoring is described. Two resonance peaks were experimentally identified with one magnet stuck on the vocal fold at frequencies F01mآ =آ 54.7آ Hz and F0′1mآ =آ 35.8آ Hz. The addition of a second magnet allowed calculation of the actual viscoelastic properties of the vocal fold: F0آ =آ 71.8آ Hz; quality factor Qآ =آ 8.03; mass mآ =آ 0.057آ g; stiffness kآ =آ 11.6آ Nآ m; and damping خ¶آ =آ 0.0032آ Nm−1. A numerical simulation of a two-layered model verified the experimental data.
