Abstract :
The Ohuira Bay is a coastal lagoon off the Gulf of California which receives industrial and agricultural effluents. Water, sediment, and shrimp samples from this bay were analyzed for pesticide pollution. Restricted and forbidden pesticides were detected (aldrin, endrin, methyl parathion, DDT, and lindane); also, concentrations, corresponded with those causing physiological and biochemical damage to shrimp. Slow growth and diverse pathologies were found. Human consumption of this seafood could be a risk because the bioaccumulation factor ranged from 3.6 to 675.
