A new type of iminosugar in which a nitrogen atom is in the place of the anomeric carbon was synthesized in a stereoselective manner from mannose via 4-C-hydroxymethyl-2,3-O-isopropylidene-1,5′-anhydro-l-ribofuranose derivative.
