Abstract
The much-discussed electron-hole attraction in resonant inelastic X-ray scattering is analyzed. Its effects on fluorescence yields and emission features are studied. While the attraction can influence both properties of fluorescence, in some cases the yield alone is affected without any change in relative strengths of spectral emission features. Model calculations of X-ray scattering are presented and compared with more realistic treatments of scattering in graphite and hBN. Both intermediate- (i.e. core-hole) and final-state (i.e. valence-hole) effects are considered.
