Abstract
The emission cross-section for the 2F5/2–2F7/2 transition of Yb3+ has been determined from absorption and emission measurements of phosphate glasses at room temperature. By systematic variations in the spectroscopic properties with glass composition, the glass composition with emission cross-section more than 1.0 pm2 and fluorescence lifetime longer than 2.00 ms is obtained which has advantage over some laser glasses reported in published papers.
