Abstract :
The catalytic activity of carbonaceous deposits present in the mineral matrix was demonstrated in the reactions of primary alcohols. The mixture of halloysite and carbonaceous waste deposit after carbonization and hydrothermal crystallization revealed prominent activity as a catalyst in the reaction of dehydrogenation of alcohol to aldehyde and also in the consecutive reaction of bimolecular condensation to ketone. The materials were studied using SEM and X-ray microanalysis, eudiometric analysis, and sorption capacity tests. Based on the results of the tests, it can be assumed that in the studied materials the graphite-like structures of carbon residue act as a catalytically active agent. The effect of synergy was observed to be especially distinct in catalysts obtained in the hydrothermal process.
