Abstract
A thin flake titania was prepared by freeze-drying of titania nanosheets exfoliated by C2H5NH3OH. The freeze-dried product yielded a voluminous white solid with a cotton-like appearance, and the particles were highly twisty flakes, which retained their shape even when calcined at 500 °C. The freeze-dried product acted as a rechargeable active material in a liquid organic electrolyte lithium cell. The discharge capacity after 20 cycles exceeded 165 mA h/g (cut-off voltage of 1.0 V), and the efficiency of the charge–discharge processes was about 97%. The discharge profile showed a gently sloping curve, and the average voltage was lower than those of TiO2 (anatase) and Li4Ti5O12.
