Synthesis and structure determination of a novel diastereomeric diaminodichlorodisilane

Different aromatic diorganoamines were tested for their reactivity with 1,1,2,2-tetrachlorodimethyldisilane (1). Indole reacts easily with 1, tetrakis(indolyl)-1,2-dimethyldisilane (2) was isolated. The reaction of N-methylaniline with 1 yields (MePhN)2MeSi–SiMe(NMePh)Cl (3) and Cl(MePhN)MeSi–SiMe(NMePh)Cl (4) depending on the proportions of the starting materials. The crystal structure of 4 shows that the compound crystallizes as separated pure enantiomeric crystals. The value of optical rotation was estimated.
