Equilibrium mixture from platinum(II) with 4-(1H-benzimidazol-2-yl)-1,3-thiazole (TBZ) and polyfluorobenzothiolates. Molecular structures of [PtCl2(TBZ)], [Pt(SC6F4(CF3)-4)2(TBZ)] and [Pt2(μ2-SC6HF4-4)2(SC6HF4-4)2(TBZ)2]

We have studied the metathetical reactions of cis-[PtCl2(TBZ)] (TBZ = 4-(1H-benzimidazol-2-yl)-1,3-thiazole) with two lead polyfluorobenzothiolates (Pb(SRF)2) giving rise to a complex equilibrium mixture of the monometallic platinum(II) compounds cis-[Pt(SRF)2(TBZ)] (SRF = SC6F4(CF3)-4 (1), SC6HF4-4 (2)), the sulfur bridged bimetallic compounds cis-[Pt2(μ2-SRF)2(SRF)2(TBZ)2] (1a–2a) and trans-[Pt2(μ2-SRF)2(SRF)2(TBZ)2] (1b–2b), both exhibiting anti and syn isomers. We also report the X-ray diffraction crystal and molecular structures of the complexes cis-[PtCl2(TBZ)] (0), cis-[Pt(SC6F4(CF3)-4)2(TBZ)] 1 and trans-anti-[Pt2(μ2-SC6HF4-4)2(SC6HF4-4)2(TBZ)2] (2b). The platinum center in 0, 1 and 2b exhibits an almost perfect square planar coordination: Clsingle bondPtsingle bondCl (89.47(6)°), Ssingle bondPtsingle bondS (94.82(13)°) and Ssingle bondPtsingle bondS (89.81(4)° and 83.41(4)°) respectively, 2b exhibits a planar [Pt2(μ-S)2] ring with the sulfur substituents in an anti configuration.
