Abstract :
The photoinitiated oxidative addition of 1 equiv. of SnCl4 to [W(CO)4(η2,η2-1,5-C8H12)] (1) affords the first cyclooctadiene complex of tungsten(II) [W(μ-Cl)(SnCl3)(CO)3(η2,η2-1,5-C8H12)] (2). The structure of compounds 1 and 2 in solution has been established by IR, 1H and 13C NMR spectroscopic methods and found to be in accordance with the crystal structure determined by X-ray diffraction studies.
