Synthesis and spectroscopic properties of a nickel(II) complex with a chiral N,N,N′-tri(2-pyridylmethyl)-S-2-(aminomethyl)piperidine = S-P3pipda

A chiral nickel(II) complex of N,N,N′-tri(2-pyridylmethyl)-S-2-(aminomethyl)piperidine (S-P3pipda), [Ni(S-P3pipda)(H2O)](ClO4)2 · H2O, 1, was prepared and its physicochemical properties were investigated by UV–Vis and circular dichroism (CD) spectroscopy, and cyclic voltammetry (CV). A racemic nickel(II) complex of N,N,N′-tri(2-pyridylmethyl)-dl-2-(aminomethyl)piperidine (dl-P3pipda) was also prepared and characterized by X-ray crystallography: the geometry around the Ni atom takes a distorted octahedral geometry with five nitrogen atoms and a water molecule serves as at the sixth site.
