Abstract :
A six-coordinated Ru(II) complex of [(bpy)2Ru(S,O-H2L)] · 1.5CH3CN, where H4L is a p-tert-butyltetrathiacalix[4]arene, was synthesized and characterized by electrospray ionization mass spectrometry and X-ray crystallographic analysis. Fluorescence quenching of ethidium bromide–DNA complex by the Ru(II) complex obeys linear Stern–Volmer equation. The quenching was realized via the DNA-mediated electron transfer from the excited ethidium to the Ru(II) complex.
