Abstract :
The preparation and characterization of [H21][EtOSO3]2 and the crystal structure of [H21][EtOSO3]Cl · H2O are reported (1 = 4′-chloro-2,2′:6′,2″-terpyridine); extensive hydrogen bonding dictates both the conformation of the tpy domain and the crystal packing. An efficient microwave oven synthesis of [Ru(1)2][PF6]2 is described; the method has general application for [Ru(tpy)2]2+ derivatives. In the solid state, [Ru(1)2][PF6]2 and [Fe(1)2][PF6]2 are isostructural and crystallize in the tetragonal image space group.
