Abstract :
A manganese diphosphonate Mn(hpedpH2)·3H2O [hpedpH4 = 1-hydroxy-2-(2-pyridyl)ethylidene-1,1-diphosphonic acid] has been synthesized under hydrothermal conditions. It shows a ladder-like chain structure in which the edge-shared {MnO6} octahedral are linked by {CPO3} tetrahedral through corner-sharing. The magnetization measurements reveal that dominant antiferromagnetic interactions are mediated between the magnetic centers and the compound experiences a field-induced magnetic transition at low temperature.
