Abstract :
Interaction of palladium carboxylates [Pd(RCO2)2]n with acetone was studied and two new types of palladium polynuclear compounds containing acetonyl and carboxylate groups were isolated. The compounds of the first type are resented by Pd4(μ-CF3CO2)4(μ,k2-CH2C(O)CH3)2(η3-CH2C(OH)CH2)2·2CH3C(O)CH3. This complex has been characterized by the X-ray diffraction analysis. The compound has been shown to contain bridging enolate-anions and η3-coordinated 2-hydroxoallyl ligands. Both ligands represent the result of acetone transformations. The compound is the first transition metal complex simultaneously containing coordinated acetonyl and η3-coordinated 2-hydroxoallyl. The compounds of the second type represent polymeric complexes of the common formula [Pd2(μ-RCO2)2(μ,k2-CH2C(O)CH3)2]n (R = CF3, CCl3) containing only bridging enolate-anions. The obtained result shows that, in the presence of strong carboxylic acids, acetone acts as a high-reactive moiety towards palladium carboxylates.
