2-Pyridylmetallocenes: part 2 [1]. Cyclomercuration of 2-pyridyl-cyrhetrene. Molecular structures of 2-pyridyl-cyrhetrene and 1-chloromercurio-2-(2-pyridyl)-cyrhetrene

Mercuration of 2-pyridyl-cyrhetrene [(2-C5H4N)C5H4]Re(CO)3 (1) with Hg(OAc)2 followed by treatment with LiCl gave after chromatographic workup the cyclomercurated [1-(ClHg)-2(2-C5H4N)C5H3]Re(CO)3 (2) in 45% yield. The molecular structures of 1 and 2 have been determined by X-ray crystallography.
