Abstract :
A novel chiral metal–organic coordination polymer [Mn2(C7H8O6)2(bipy)2(H2O)2]·6H2O (1) (C7H8O6 = 2,3-O-isopropylidene-L-tartrate dianion, bipy = 4,4′-bipyridine) has been solvothermally synthesized in high yield and fully characterized, including by single crystal and powder X-ray diffractions. The analysis of X-ray crystallography revealed that a two-dimensional (2-D) rectangular-grid layer with a cavity dimension of 11.658 × 5.273 Å2, which can be survived up to 200 °C, has been constructed. In the polymer 1 through the oxygen atoms of tartrates and the coordinated water molecules, the 2-D rectangular-grid layers are hydrogen-bonded to the lattice water chains to form a 3-D supramolecular network. Preliminary investigation reveals that 1 shows weak antiferromagnetic interactions between the Mn(II) centers.
