A new one-dimensional copper(I) halide lattice: (paraquat)Cu4Cl6

The crystal structure of a copper(I) halide salt is reported which contains a new type of one-dimensional lattice network. The structure contains chains of alternating Cu6Cl6 units and Cu2Cl6 units. The Cu(I) ions have either distorted tetrahedral (three) or trigonal (one) coordination geometries. The halide coordination geometries are diverse: bent two coordinate (four), trigonal pyramidal three coordinate(one) and square pyramidal four coordinate (one).
