One-dimensional structure of a photochromic coordination polymer composed of 1,2-bis[2-methyl-5-(4-pyridyl)-3-thienyl]cyclopentene and Zn(II) chloride

The crystal structure of the coordination polymer composed of 1,2-bis[2-methyl-5-(4-pyridyl)-3-thienyl]cyclopentene and Zn(II) chloride has been determined at 293 K. The photochromic ligand coordinates to the Zn cations adopting a C2 symmetry geometry. The distance between the central reaction carbons is short enough to undergo photochromic reaction.
