Abstract :
Hydrothermal reaction of copper nitrate, sodium molybdate, and 3-pyridylnicotinamide (3-pna) afforded a polycrystalline sample of [CuMoO4(3-pna)]n (1), which was structurally characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Compound 1 manifests [CuMoO4]n ribbon motifs that contain two distinct types of {Cu2Mo2O4} 8-membered rings. Parallel [CuMoO4]n ribbon motifs are pillared into 2-D [CuMoO4(3-pna)]n coordination polymer slabs by dipodal anti conformation 3-pna tethers. These possess a 3,5-connected binodal (426)(42678) topology, representing the first time this topology has been observed in metal oxide chemistry. Net weak antiferromagnetic coupling was observed within the 1-D [CuMoO4]n ribbons, with g = 1.99(2) and J = −0.45(14) cm−1.
