Abstract
Over 20 years ago it was proposed that the effects of historical Galactic supernovae were detectable by enhancements seen in the nitrate levels in Antarctic ice cores. Although this original work is still cited, more recent work in this area that clearly shows no such association of nitrate levels with supernovae is not. The available results on nitrate levels in the literature are briefly reviewed.
