Abstract :
This paper shows the utilization of a fiber optic sensor network for monitoring the behavior of the enclosure of a telecommunication tower. Such enclosure is composed by double monolithic glass panels filled with an alveolar type polycarbonate structure. These fiber optic sensors are also integrated with a fiber optic accelerator and various building automation KNX sensors into a custom developed Building Management System for remote monitoring the structural health of the building. Results related to the measurements recorded into the glass alveolar panel have been used for assessing the structural reliability of the panel, under thermal and mechanical working conditions.
