  • Abstract
    Oribatid mites are a group of arthropods that have had remarkable evolutionary success with regard to species richness and variety of habitats colonized. They have successfully invaded all compartments of the biosphere; and one can find several hundred thousand oribatid mites per square meter in the organic layers of temperate forest soil, represented by more than 100 species (Lebrun & van Straalen 1995).
