Abstract :
The reaction between water vapor and surface hydroxyls on F82H oxidized surfaces was studied using Fourier transform infrared absorption spectroscopy (FTIR) and X-ray diffraction analysis (XRD). After D2O vapor exposure, an infrared absorption peak related to O–D stretching vibration was observed in an as-received F82H plate, which means that surface hydroxyls OH− was replaced with OD− by isotope exchange reaction between surface hydroxyls OH− and D2O vapor. On the other hand, no absorption peak was observed in F82H powders oxidized at various temperatures in air. The surface hydroxyls behaviors correlated with the surface oxidation state of F82H samples observed by FTIR more than that by XRD. It was suggested that the reactivity between water vapor and surface hydroxyls on F82H surfaces is affected by the oxidation state of the outermost surface.
