Abstract :
Y6AnO12 and Yb6AnO12 (An: actinide elements) are potential ceramic waste forms in which various actinide elements could be immobilized stably for a prolonged period. The thermal conductivity of Y6WO12 and Yb6WO12 has been studied because Y6WO12 and Yb6WO12 have the same crystal structure as Y6AnO12 and Yb6AnO12. The high-density pellets of Y6WO12 and Yb6WO12 were prepared by spark plasma sintering (SPS), and the thermal conductivity (κ) was examined. The κ value of Y6WO12 (around 6.05 W m−1 K−1 at 300 K) was higher than that of Yb6WO12 (around 4.59 W m−1 K−1 at 300 K). The magnitude relation of κ between Y6WO12 and Yb6WO12 was discussed based on the general lattice thermal conductivity theory.
