Abstract :
Dictation, though widely known as a testing device, can be considered a good learning technique to improve
learnersʹ spelling accuracy. Present study was an attempt to investigate the effect of oral dictation method on EFL
learnersʹ spelling accuracy .to carry out this study, a total of 26 EFL subjects (co-education classes), at third grade
guidance school in Komijan province were semi-randomly selected at two intact classes. To this end, an
experimental group (EG) and a control group (CG) were selected. All the conditions, especially teaching materials,
were the same for both groups, except that the EG had regular practice by oral dictation for two month. General
proficiency test, pre-test and post-test were utilized for both groups. Statistical test including one way ANOVA,
Kolmogorov-Smirnov test, Tukey HSD test used. Descriptive statistics revealed the following outcomes: 1- The
results showed that both groups showed improvement in their performance on dictation. 2- With respect to the
components of the test, the EG that used oral dictation showed higher improvement in their dictation skills. 3-
Control group learners’ showed no significant improvement in their dictation skills by practicing partial method.
