Abstract :
Deuterium trapping in carbon fiber composite N11 and pyrolitic graphite PG99 irradiated with plasma ions and electrons was examined with thermal desorption spectrometry. It has been found that the deuterium trapping takes place even at ion and electron energies of about 10 eV. For equal ion fluences, the deuterium retention and probability of CD4 formation are higher for ion irradiation at lower ion flux. Peculiarities of the deuterium retention and CD4 formation are explained; driving forces and mechanisms of the D trapping are discussed.
